Shirley May Fultz, 84 went home to our Lord Jan. 18, 2013, surrounded by her loving family and caring staff at the Hospice Care Center in Bremerton, WA. Shirley was born Sept. 20, 1928 to August & Ruth (Blair) Behning, in Duluth, MN.
After farming in Scoby, MT for 10 years, the family returned to Duluth, where Shirley grew up during the war years. She joined her mother in Bremerton in the early ‘50’s, working as a cook, waitress and bartender in many downtown businesses, eventually owning Sammy’s Triangle Café in the ‘70’s, where she was well-known for her homemade soups and friendly banter with her customers.
She was a member of the National Association of Atomic Veterans, VFW Auxiliary, and American Red Cross. She was active in her children’s PTA, and was a long time member of TOPS, holding a number of offices over the years. She loved to volunteer at the Naval Hospital to help our veterans.
After retirement she enjoyed needlework, knitting and canvas décor, making presents for every occasion for her friends and family. She was very generous, and donated to many charities, helping wherever she could.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and sister Ruth June, and her husband Earl Fultz, as well as two grandsons, George Molnar the IVth, and Frank Torres.
She is survived by her 7 children, Michael (Nancy) House, Ronald House, Ronda House McDowell, Sheryl House Torres, Mark House, Charmaine Parsons, and Earl (Barbara) Fultz. Her surviving siblings include her brother Ronald (Pat) Behning, sisters Joy (Al) Burrows, Donna Franck, and Maureen Polhamus. Also surviving is her former spouse FJ House.
